No quiero uniformar.

Without Jesús del Pozo the fashion world will never be the same.

The great designer Jesús del Pozo died two years ago. His death suppose a terrible hit for the fashion world. He was from my point of view, the best designer of the Contemporary Fashion History.

 NOEMI COLLADO. Madrid.
After a long pulmonary illness, the fashion designer Jesús del Pozo died 13th of August 2011.
He began designing garments for menswear, there were garments made with rustic fabrics, warm and naturals. Thereafter, he discovers how women went into his shop looking for menswear cloths. They began to be appropriate of his menswear designs.
The women felt really comfortable and attractive with the menswear garments, wearing shorts and trousers.  Finally, he decided to create a womens line, and this is how he began his trajectory in the womens fashion world.
The Jesús del Pozo´s logo was created in 1997 by the graphics designer and photographer Juan Gatti. He took the inspiration for the logo of the company, from the arrow which decorated a sweater created by the designer for one collection developed in 1960 (this sweater was the favorite one of the designer).  His logo was the reflection of his career.
The success was the resulted of a hard and constant work. As he said: “A designer should not be a fashion victim. Must be a victim of labor. Only in the dictionary, success comes before work”.

The designer was born in Madrid. He began his studies learning Industrial Engineering and thereafter began the degree of Interior Design.

In 1974, he opened his initial menswear shop, in Almirante´s street and thereafter in 1980, he presented his first women line of prêt-a-porter.

We can emphasize these awards among the most important prizes that the designer received during his career:

In 1981, he received the award “Aguja de Oro” for the best designer. He showed the collection “Design of actual fashion” for the Spring Festival. This catwalk was celebrated in the Old Museum of Antropology in Madrid.

In 1988, he received the award Cristóbal Balenciaga for the Best Spanish Fashion Designer. This year received the award for the Best Fashion Designer by The Spanish Centre of New professions   and in the same year, he shows the Collection Spring/Summer 89 in the Fashion Week of Tokyo.

Thereafter in 1992 he launch is perfume “Duende”. This perfume supposed the access to the company to a new business area.
In 1996, del Pozo began his first wedding dress collection in the catwalk “Barcelona Fashion Week." The designer gets a big-business fashion line, making ceremony dresses and reach a new fashion product.

A few years after, in 1998 he received the “Medalla de Oro al Mérito en Bellas Artes” and a year after the award “T de Telva” for the Best Spanish Fashion Designer.

In 2005, he participated in a project called “Cook and Fashion towards other Designers and cookers as important as Ferrán Adriá or Victorio y Lucchino.

The fashion designer had a clear fashion style. When he was thinking in a new collection, he got the inspiration from the real Spanish style and creativity.

He took the inspiration looking at the conservative Castilla´s garments, the traditional culture and the hearth colour of his grounds. He created informal garments similar as the trouser´s tights with jackets and vest. All the clothes were made with rustics, warms and natural fabrics.

Madrid was another theme of inspiration; he loved to get in touch with the artistic weaves of the capital.

He always felt a fascination for India, Japan, Turkey or Greek. His travels to these countries gave him the possibility to mix the colours and the smells in his designs.
In India or Japan, the tradition and the originality is most important than the perfection and the productivity sense.

During his career, he got the influence of the minimalism and the pure lines in the form, things that he took in his travels.

Another element of the Jesús del Pozo trajectory is the Art-decó and the Bauhaus movement (he uses these references for made triangles, rectangles and circles in his designs). His garment appears as geometrical shapes, plain, straights and without any texture.

As a conclusion, we could say that the Jesús del Pozo designs were plenty of imagination, fantasy and functionality. He called functionality as this way “The inner luxury," making reference to his fox coats with the softest part of the animal placed inside the lining.
The most important thing was to enjoy and feel the garment. This emotion makes feel better to the women. She felt herself more confidence and attractive.

Del Pozo searched to highlight the natural elegance of each woman. He didn´t look forward to transforming into a different person using his dresses, what he wants to emphasize was his personality. The garments of the  Jesús del Pozo made for the woman even prettiest.

As he said, in an interview in 2010 September for El País newspaper: “I love to the woman, and I love to maximice all her positive things. I don´t want to give her a uniform. Important that each person brings something of his personality in his outfits so I try to make flexible and practical fashion."

He was the first one in give different styles to the men and women, but he didn´t obey the cultural and social movements of 70´.

His designs had imagination, fantasy and functionality. Del Pozo always looked the way to show the luxury of the garments in a different way as the usual one. He thought that the luxury can be perceived across the sense, the smell or the touch and not only using his economic value.

He was the key designer of 80s “Movida Madrileña.”

He was the first designer who creates big trousers with plaits, sweater oversize and suits made of natural materials as linen or mohair.

He felt admiration of countries located in Asia. He used the minimalism and the pure lines in his designs. He refused the excess of the over-decoration and avoid the unnecessary things in his designs.

Jesús del Pozo died in 2011 and it was a terrible hit for the fashion world. That day died the best fashion designer of the Spanish Fashion History.

The importance of the innovation in the fashion world.

Fashion world is day after day more competitive and in order to detach, it's really important to create models more and more complex and elaborated.

NOEMI COLLADO. Madrid.
The innovation in the textile area is always necessary. The investigation of the textiles´s improvement it´s now a reality. The textile companies invest more and more money in Innovation and Development. The companies are looking for some new fabrics that give more value to the design. The customers have nowadays a lot of information relative to the products, and they demand more kinds of products.
Today exist many and variety kinds of fabrics, for example, made with bamboo yarns or seaweed.
There are fabrics, which care the skin and avoid the bites of the insects. Furthermore, other kind of fabric gives more hydratation to the surface of the body.

An example of innovation in the world of the fashion design is the designer Jean Paul Gaultier. This designer is really eclectic; he never let indifferent to the rest of the people. He plays with the limits of the real and unreal things, with the masculine and the feminine. He is always faithful with his style.

In their collections, we always find references to the fetishism, religious pictures, Parisians style (because he use a lot the dark tones) or breton stripes.

If we talk about Gautier, we must point out the exposition that he developed in Madrid. It was located in the Recoleto´s exposition building, Mapfre Foundation.

“Jean Paul Gaultier. Exposición Universo de la moda. De la calle a las estrellas”. The exposition was produced by the Musée du Meaux-arts de Montreal, in collaboration with the Maison Jean Paul Gaultier. This is the first time that the designer gives to the Spanish public the opportunity to check their designs deeply and see the different steps of his carrier. There were more than 110 models of High Couture, prêt-a-porter and catwalks.

His models are always innovative and daring. He takes inspiration from all over the world.
The exposition was organized across six court-rooms, and the visitor could check all the designs deeply. When people got into the exposition, I noticed that Jean Paul had placed two mannequins at the front door, decorated with garments, which had a Spanish inspiration (traditional Spanish dresses or bullfighter's garments).

A really significant detail was the movement of the mannequin´s faces. The lips and the eyes had movement, and they look alive.

As a conclusion, we could say that the great Jean Paul wants to put his vision to the reality in each design. His own view of the reality has different influences: the marines, the sirens, the virgins, the corset feminine and the mix of cultures. The designs of Jean Paul are plenty of innovations. He brakes with all the social and aesthetics codes.
